Have been thinking about the notion of a return to four groups of four, and it occurs to me that there's a financial elephant in the room.Currently, there's gate income from five rounds of group games. Don't know how much that would actually work out at in "real" terms, but it's a 40% drop no matter what way you look at it, since it's unlikely that the attendances would be any bigger if there were only three group games instead of five.Would also mean the price of the season ticket would have to drop, since there'd be far fewer games to use it at. And the powers-that-be look at season ticket revenue as being very important at the time of year they're sold, so a 25% drop there would be an issue too.I'm not a money man, by the way. Making that change would mean income from only three rounds. If you consider 160 as being a tenner for each round of championship (eight in hurling, eight in football), then it would have to drop to 120 if you took out two rounds of each. Am just pointing out things that would need to be considered, that some people mightn't think of up front.

i plated on a team who were stuck hanging on to senior status for 5 years,it was not fun to play in a competition where we had no chance of winning.we never got out of the group even.

Well, you pointed out a flaw in my argument all right, that I should have thought of myself - the change would bring 24 group games instead of 30, and therefore a 20% drop, not 40%.Not sure how worthy that other idea is, though. So then you'd have either 1 or 2 unseeded for the group itself, and either 16 or 16 seeded. This would be all based on the luck of the draw, which surely goes against what seeding is supposed to be about in the first place.Think all this talk of changing structures is irrelevant anyway. There have been several other ideas put forward in the time since then, but this is the one they stick with. The current system is what the clubs themselves have approved every year since it introduced in 2012. Unless that first round you talk about was itself seeded, you could have a draw of best team on merit plays second best, and 15 plays 16. Think there are flaws in that too.

Shelmeliers by 3 points.Castletown vs Horeswood. Castletown are serial quarter finalists but this is new territory for this Horeswood side. Leacy big loss and despite all the big names missing for Jimmies I see them pulling off a minor shock. St James by 2 points.Shelmeliers vs Gusserane. If Castletown get on top early they could give the Woodies a bit of a hiding. Gusserane are capable of winning but are very inconsistent and look to be a spent force. Starlights are another inconsistent side, capable of beating anyone on their day but I feel Martin's will have too much for them on this occasion. Martin's by 4 points. Shels with plenty of draws this year. Horeswood will need their big name forwards to click and hope Castletown have an off day. Battle of previous king pins. Could be close. Ramsgrange beat Glynn when they had to win last year, Glynn were bullied on the day. Not motoring anywhere near last years levels, perhaps looking more toward the hurling ?? Martin's similar to Shels are probably more focussed on the small ball this year. Weekend Games:Glynn/Barntown vs St James. It ll be close but Shels should prevail. Castletown by a comfortable 7 points.St Martin's vs Starlights.
