Well done to all the lads involved. Final score Walsh Island 2-10, Ballycumber 0-15. It's a team game, and although reluctant to single anyone out, mention has to be made of Brian Connor's goal, pure top drawer. A super result for the Seniors on Saturday evening against Ballycumber in Killeigh. However great attitude and some good scores to get back into the game, and then grab the win right at the end. It was great for Walsh Island to return to Senior football after 26 years with a win.8 points down with 20 minutes left, some below par performances, and it was starting to feel like a day to forget. 'Welcome to Senior football' was a phrase that could be heard from the watching crowd, and indeed it was looking like a rough welcome back to the top ranks.

However, a quick look at some of the names available to Rhode - the McNamees, the Sullivans, the Darbys, Paschal Kelleghan, Roy Malone - and it"s hard to see a performance as poor as they put in against Shannonbridge being repeated. Ferbane have rediscovered their pride and won"t concede an inch, but Rhode are still the class act in Offaly and should prove that once again on Sunday afternoon. If both sides repeated their performance from last Sunday week, there would be every chance that Ferbane would get the four-point win that they need to guarantee their progression into the next round.

The Juniors face Kilclonfert, Bracknagh, Clara, Tubber and Drumcullen in the 'C' Championship, while in Division 5 of the league they play Shannonbridge, Doon, Durrow, Kilclonfert and Bracknagh. The Winter League in the school also got under way last week also. Walsh Island were well represented on the day with Shane Gavin, Brian Connor, Shane McGrath, Michael Brereton, Colm Mulhall, Rory Galvin, Dean Murphy and Ian Duffy all playing and James Mulhall on the bench. Best of luck to St Broughan's.Brussels: Some clubs members had a pre-season trip to Brussels last week. Conspiracy theorists will be watching this game keenly to see if the two sides engineer the mutually satisfactory draw that will send both clubs into the knockout stages, but realistically this will only be an issue if the scores are level with a few minutes to go. Both these sides have been surprise packets in 2008 and neither team will want to lose momentum by doing anything other than competing at 100 per cent intensity.

Our next dance takes place on Friday 5th April in Cloghan GAA centre. Thanks also to John Bennett for putting a dance notice in the various parish news bulletins. A great night was had by all. Many thanks to Pat Costelloe and his band for the great music and a special word of thanks to PJ Camon, Garry Daly, Noel Rosney and John Keegan. Dancing form 9.30pm to 12am to Catrona and the Images. St Rynaghs football club would like to thank our many patrons who attended our social dance at the new GAA centre on Friday night last.
